About the Group

Greetings and welcome to Classic Cancan 2! This is a continuation of Classic Cancan (https://classiccancan.blogspot.com/), which has reached capacity for new photos, but which is still active. Please make all new posts here rather than at Classic Cancan. The main discussion site, where most people post, is CancanGroup.io (https://groups.io/g/CancanGroup). Please go there for daily text postings. These are sites for the discussion and appreciation of the Cancan in all its forms, from its genesis in Paris during La Belle Epoche, to its appearance in London, San Francisco and The Old West. Owned and operated by the online cancan community, Classic Cancan 2 is open to everybody with a genuine interest in the World's Greatest Dance. Please note, however, that Classic Cancan 2 is a G-Rated group, so please don't post anything objectionable. While the content of this site may be described as slightly 'risque,' this is not an adult community in any sense of the word, and anything deemed inappropriate will be deleted immediately.

Танцевальный сборник. Фрагменты фильмов: "Сильва", "Цыганский барон", "Веселая вдова", "Марица" и др

Now, here's a rarity for the serious student of cancan film history   I haven't seen most of the clips included in this video, which appear to be from the pre-WWII era.  The dancing begins about 1:19 for a relatively long segment.  Other cancans appear later in the video. about 23:00 and 28:04.  There are also some nice spinning sequences in the middle of the video.

The description translated reads:

"Dance collection. Film fragments: "Silva", "The Gypsy Baron", "The Merry Widow", "Maritza" and others

In this collection you will see dance fragments from black-and-white operetta films of the first half of the 20th century. Among them are "Silva", "Gasparone", "Light Cavalry", "The Beggar Student", "Where the Lark Sings", "Ball at the Opera", "Waltz Dreams", "The Gypsy Baron", Countess Maritza, "The Merry Widow", "Parisian Life".

The films are based on operettas by: Johann Strauss, Oscar Strauss, Jacques Offenbach, Imre Kalman, Franz von Suppé, Karl Millöcker, Franz Lehar.

Plus a postscript: Johann Strauss Polka "Trick-Track""
